A practical workshop on basic lighting principles and a demonstration of some lighting techniques. Topics covered in this session: light and reflections, inverse square law. Workshop run by David Gilliver.
This evening will be a starter course for anyone who wants to improve their understanding of light. I will be explaining basic concepts, demonstrating them and offering ideas on how you can use those concepts in your own photography, whether that be photographing flowers at home or models in a studio. I will be demonstrating different ways of shooting both an office stapler and a room full of people.
I will try to make the evening practical but as non-technical as possible.
A basic understanding of aperture, shutter speed and film speed will be assumed. Cameras will not be required: resulting images will be posted on my flickr.com site for examination afterwards.
The follow-on session in July will build on the concepts covered in this session. Topics for the July night night will probably be: gels and other lighting modifiers.
