WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY (extract from July and August VAPS Newsbrief)
"August 19th 2008. Celebrate World Photography Day Pay tribute to the pioneers and remember the inventor of photography. This is a good way to make people aware of the importance of the science and art of photography, to make them aware of the power and potential of photography etc" and for Photographic Clubs to celebrate this event by "organising special exhibitions, competitions, memorial lecturers, conferences, seminars and workshops".
MCC has assembled a series of activities in order to participate in World Photography Day. The activities include:
Sunday 24th August - a presentation on a photographic topic, a photoshoot in and around the Clubrooms, and a visit to the Traditional Darkroom Printmakers' Exhibition. The activities planned are:
- from 10.00 AM to noon, a presentations on "How to shoot a wedding" (presenter Ron Cork)
- from 12.15 - 1.00 PM, a photoshoot, facilitated by Martin Scerri, of a person (possibly wearing white to make calculating exposure difficult) on the stairs shot at MCC
- a lunch break from 1.00 to 1.30 PM (BYO or buy at the Market)
- from 1.30 to 2.15 PM a second photoshot, facilitated by Robert Groom, in one of the lanes outside the clubrooms (in midday sun, or the rain, possibly with a mixture of bright light and shadows).
- from 2.15 PM onwards a visit to the MCC Traditional Darkroom Printmakers Exhibition.
