John first became interested in photography as a schoolboy when he was given a Box Brownie camera and he has retained that interest ever since. A keen traveller, he has had the opportunity to take photographs in a number of different countries, hence the title of his talk.
He belonged to camera clubs in Adelaide and Sale in the seventies, and joined St Kilda Camera Club in 1984. This club closed in 1993 and John joined the Caulfield Photographic Society. He held the position of Competition Secretary for several years, and became the club's President in 2003; a position he still holds.
He has served as Vice President of the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies (VAPS) since 2003.
John competes regularly in club, national and international competitions, and gained the awards of LAPS in 2005, and AAPS in 2007. He has also judged at both club and national levels.
