The June outing will be to the Bendigo Art Gallery where a variety of activities should provide an interesting and enjoyable day. We will travel to Bendigo on the V/Line train which leaves Southern Cross at 9.15 AM and return in the afternoon.
The Bendigo Art Gallery is one of Victoria’s leading galleries and at this time is able to offer two outstanding exhibitions – one photographic and one high quality art.
A Camera on the Somme 1816 – 1919 – the Grinton brothers and the 38th Battalion
The First World War was an industrial war of global proportions which looms large in the Australian psyche. It was into this world conflict that two young brothers from central Victoria, Jack and Bert Grinton, found themselves serving in the trenches of France and Belgium. 90 years later an extraordinary find brought a treasure to light. Inside a biscuit tin stored for decades in a shed on the Grinton farm – and headed for the rubbish – was a large collection of negatives and photographs; images taken by Jack and Bert Grinton between 1916 and 1919 with the camera they carried with them during the war.
Archibald Prize 09
In the same gallery will be the touring exhibition of the Archibald prize 2009. As the exhibition will not come to Melbourne it is an excellent Opportunity to view the best of the entrants for this sought after prize.
Entry by gold coin donation.
