The first mid week outing for 2012 shall be on Tuesday 7th February to
Victorian Archives.
"Summer Past" Golden Days in the Sun 1950-1970 - is the name of a photography exhibition, put together by the National Archives of Australia, and currently on display. The 75 prints should stir memories of idyllic summers spent at the beach. In addition, a tour of the Victorian Achieves has been arranged, which shall take us behind the scenes and include how they preserve old records using digital photography. Hopefully there will also be an opportunity to see some of the old images from their own Victorian archives.
The State Archives centre is situated at 99 Shiel St., North Melbourne - Melways 2A E6. There is 2 hour parking in Shiel St. outside the centre, or a large free car park out the back in Macaulay Rd., opposite and just past the North Melbourne Football/Cricket Ground. The entrance to this car park is next to, and on the city side of to the Achieves delivery bays at 112 Macaulay Rd. There is easy access (including wheel chair) from this car park at ground level via a rather long straight passage to the stairs and lift which provide accesses to Reception on level 3 (the Shiel St. entrance).
The tour has been arranged for 10.45 am, it is recommended that you arrive around 10:15am to have a look at the exhibition and enjoy a coffee at Café 99, which is in the Archives building, opposite Reception at the Shield Street entrance. Café 99 is not licensed, but it does have a good selection of quality food suitable for lunch, however there will be other options if required on the day.
