Come for a stroll in one of Blackburn's ‘Bellbird Areas'
along streets that are classified by the National Trust. This is a unique,
heavily treed area that has managed to survive the pressures to conform to conventional
street-scapes.
Meet for coffee at
10:30.
The Jacaranda Tree
Café
28 Blackburn Road (Melways 47 K10)
The Café is about 200m south of the railway crossing on the
west side of Blackburn Road. Parking (3hrs) is available in a car park outside
the Café or in a connecting car park to the west. If you are coming by train,
exit the Blackburn Station on the south side, cross South Parade, turn left, proceed
about 200m, and turn right into Blackburn Road. The Café is about another 200m
on your right.
We will then assemble
at the corner of Laurel Grove North and Fuchsia Street (Melway 47 J11) for a
walk through the area. Exit the Café car park to the west onto Gardenia Street,
turn left, turn right at the next intersection into The Avenue, cross Main
Street and then left at the next intersection into Laurel Grove North. Fuchsia
Street is the next intersection.
A local guide will provide a commentary.
Lunch will be
back at the same Café around 12:30.
The challenge: to
capture the character of this unusual street-scape.
